IMF Sees Need For More Gig Economy Research
International Monetary Fund Remarks
The International Monetary Fund has taken an interest in measuring the global gig economy.
The IMF is seeking to better understand informal economies of all kinds as part of its effort to help countries meet the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.
In remarks at a Statistical Forum November 14, Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva described how the gig economy is creating more opportunities for people to engage in informal employment to supplement their income, but that this employment may be missing or underrepresented in labor force surveys.
